Just 1 week until this year’s Wisconsin Biohealth Summit at the Overture in Madison, and we can’t wait!
First, the day kicks off with networking and a delicious breakfast catered by Fresco. There, we get the fuel we need to listen to exciting speakers and get inspired throughout the day! As a student, starting the day with breakfast and networking is a great way to get acclimated to the professional environment and start to make connections with exciting people in the biohealth industry.
After breakfast, we head over to the morning keynote session! For me, the keynote is an exciting way to learn more about what I’m interested in in the Wisconsin Biohealth Industry. It inspires me to dive deeper into thought-provoking subjects that I might like to get involved with in the future. This helps me to develop both my personal interests and career goals and get in a thoughtful & inspired mindset for the rest of the day!
A tip for students: You’ll hear about so many interesting ideas, people, and subjects throughout the day, so it’s not a bad idea to keep a notes tab open on your phone, or a notepad in your bag to jot down ideas, names, or companies you want to look into in the future!
Following the Morning Keynote, we get the opportunity to network a little bit more before the next breakout sessions start. These breakout sessions include either panels or fireside chats in the Business, Science & Tech, or Professional Development track. As a student in STEM, I really enjoy learning more about the business side of science that I don’t get a lot of exposure to in my classes, but I also enjoy learning about up-and-coming technologies and changes occurring in the biohealth industry.
Next comes more networking and lunch! Lunch is another great setting for making connections and learning from professionals in the biohealth industry of Wisconsin. Plus, we get the opportunity to view the Business and Scientific Achievement Awards ceremony! Hearing the awardees’ stories is both personally and professionally inspiring.
After another two sets of fireside chats with built-in breaks for networking, we head to the reception. There, we enjoy yummy hors d’oeuvres and signature cocktails, while people network and form valuable connections. Just like last year, there will also be a Career Fair at the reception featuring a variety of BioForward member companies! This career fair is a great, casual way to converse with prospective future employers and learn more about companies that play a role in the biohealth industry of Wisconsin.
When the Summit is all over, I feel like I’ve accomplished a great day of networking & getting to know the biohealth industry of Wisconsin. I have a better understanding of how the industry works, who’s involved, and maybe even how I want to get involved. All in all, the Wisconsin Biohealth Summit is an exciting event full of inspiring sessions and networking opportunities. If you’re a student like me, it’s definitely an opportunity you won’t want to miss!!
